A Midnight Clear - A Christmas Quilt Finish

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! We had six kids (4 step-grands ages 14, 11, and 9yo twins) and our two Littles (age 9 and 6) and three adults (our daughter, son-in-law, and his Mom, Florence) visiting on one of the warmest Christmas day we've ever had. The kids were sweet, and we had good food and good times - a truly lovely, memorable day.

The quilt and the embroidered pillow were gifted to my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas The quilt was inspired by a simple pattern on Susies-Scraps.com found via this post on Jocelyn's blog. You can read more details about the quilt in my previous post and the pillow (from an embroidery pattern by Joy) in this post.

Blowing in the wind

The rich dark green of the sashing and binding was the inspiration for the name "A Midnight Clear".

I made this little mug rug for Florence, who has become an unexpected friend!
The pattern also has a pumpkin version - you can find it on Etsy right here.

Edyta Star's Silent Night is my Christmas project for next year, inspiration by Karen - go see her beautiful flannel version here. My daughter has already claimed it based on this one un-pieced block!

  1. A Midnight Clear is a beautiful finish, and love the pillow that goes with it, too! I bet your daughter and SIL love it. And the adorable mug rug - I want one just like it with the tiny patchwork and a tree on the mug - so sweet! I've admired those trees in Karen's quilt, too - yours is starting out perfectly!

  5. Sounds like you had a happy house full for the holiday. A Midnight Clear turned out beautifully! If your version of Silent Night is as cute as Karen's, I know why your daughter claimed it with just he one block on the wall! Not ready for the cold snap, but Christmas was really too warm. But I don't want cold, cold. Guess I'm never happy with the weather here!

  6. What a fun post...lots of Christmas cheer! I love the pillow and the quilt you made for your daughter & son-in-law, the mug rug for your friend and the Karen inspired project for next year! Not liking the weather so far this winter....too much snow, but tomorrows threat looks to be rain...welcome indeed.

  7. What a lovely quilt and a great use of scraps! I'm not sure why I haven't been getting email notifications of your blog posts, but I was delighted to get one today and see that I've missed a *lot* of posts, lol. A houseful on Christmas sounds wonderful! My sewing time has been limited as we are in the process of moving from the hill country to north east Texas. Most of my fabric is boxed up for now (35+ bankers boxes worth, yikes!) My husband laughed and laughed when I said that I won't be buying fabric for years after packing and moving all that fabric. Thank you for the pleasant morning going through the posts I've missed - I hope you have a very happy and blessed New Year!

For some reason my Feedly reader has not been loading your blog I think I have it right now but it might be I will need to periodically check. I hope you finish your xmas quilt and I would like to see it when it is done. I will need to remember to get mine on the frame in late summer to finish it for Xmas
