SAHRR Round 5
Quilting Gail provided the prompt this week for Round 5 of the 2026 Stay At Home Round Robin. You will find Gail's pretty version of "two colors" right here.
Since my husband and I were both born and raised in Oklahoma, I chose The Road to Oklahoma as my 2-color block for his future quilt. This block easily lends itself to the two colors I picked - red and blue.. I needed a pattern for a 10-1/2 inch unfinished block and found a free PDF for 7 sizes on Scissortail Quilting, a blog by a quilter from northeastern Oklahoma who lives near our childhood hometown.
Here are all the SAHRR blocks so far around the panel
Mercantile Maple Leaf Block
This is the third block I have made from Lori Holt's 2024 Mercantile Sewalong.
I am adding this post to Quilting Gail's linkup
Both blocks turned out well! How big is the mercantile block? I’m just wandering what you could do with the blocks if you make less than 25.
ReplyDeleteI have made some half square triangles out of the some of the waste too. And I'm cutting out the circles from in back of the blocks which will give me smaller circles I'm contemplating using them either in another quilt with maybe an applique flower or something on them or saving them for future use - time will tell. Your blocks look great and so does your SAHRR - the panel looks good with what you have added around it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I've ever seen a Road to Oklahoma block before, Linda - it's a neat one! It's perfect for your panel border. The maple leaf is pretty in the Mercantile setting, too, but that fabric waste does sound frustrating!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great framing the panel and I like all those connections you've made with your Road to Oklahoma block. They make this lovely quilt extra personalised. I also love your lori Lori Holt blocks. It's a pity they are using up so much fabric.
ReplyDeleteRoad to Oklahoma is a fun block to pick for the two color prompt. Your SAHRR is coming together. Last prompt this week. It's always sad when this challenge ends.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you will have lots of scraps when done with this mercantile quilt if you keep on making the blocks. Your hubbies quilt is coming right along.
ReplyDeleteRoad to Oklahoma blocks are a great choice. Super cool. They look so great all nexxt to that panel !!
ReplyDeleteYour SAHRR is looking very country! I wouldn't worry about fabric waste. If you never use the fabric, is it fabric waste? Better to be used. I love the circle part of the blocks. I vote for making all 25. Can I recommend trimming away the 4-patches behind the circles? So they don't shadow through. Just a thought. They are showstopping, Linda. Keep going!
ReplyDeleteRoad to Oklahoma is a perfect block for your quilt, with you two both being from Oklahoma! I love those round quilt blocks!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect block to use being you are from OK.
ReplyDeleteYour Road to Oklahoma is the perfect block for your SAHRR!! All your blocks are looking great around your panel! Thank you for linking!
ReplyDeleteIt is all coming together very nicely.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the blocks you've made for SAHRR. The maple leaf block looks great. It's too bad there is so much fabric waste. I don't enjoy applique' so I never attempted this pattern. Also, that is why Halloween Figs is sitting...I've made the large pieced blocks but can't bring myself to finish the applique'.
ReplyDeleteYour Road to Oklahoma blocks add a meaningful story to your round robin. Your husband will surely be happy. And I love your sewalong blocks! They are beautiful and will make a gorgeous setting.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kristina - I think my husband will love the quilt.
DeleteRoad to Oklahoma is so perfect for your husband's quilt. It is a lot of fabric waste...maybe you can make an insert for the back from the scraps....I can see the four patch circles, turned into four patches....and then it is almost a two sided quilt. Have fun figuring out what to do.
ReplyDeleteI love the connection to where you grew up in your response to the SAHRR prompt this week. It's hard to believe we only have one more prompt to go!
ReplyDeleteLove the Road to Oklahoma, especially because it brings bit of personal history to this quilt. And how fun that you did two different combos of fabrics -- it will be fun to see this quilt finished!
