As usual, it took more time for me to choose fabrics for the blocks and the log cabin frames than it did to actually sew them together! Melva's sew-alongs are so entertaining with her stories and posts. Her choice of the Little House on the Prairie series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which are the inspiration for these pretty blocks, was a perfect pick for this sew-along.
Block #3 - Harvest Basket block is based on the Farmer Boy book about the childhood of Laura's husband Almanzo Wilder. Melva's post about it is here.
Block #4 - Shoo Fly block represents On The Banks Of Plum Creek. Read about how Melva ties it to the grasshopper devastation here.
Block #5 - Rails block depicts traveling by train in By The Shores Of Silver Creek, which Melva writes about here.
Block #6 - Snowflake block symbolizes the blizzards in The Long Winter, and Melva has a great post about it here.
Here are the 6 blocks completed so far. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Rails block!
Rosie has been supurr-vising every block and is exhausted from helping me
This has been a relaxing and fun SAL, and Melva's patterns and instructions are easy to follow. It has been a joy to work with a jelly roll of Indigo Garden by Riley Blake, along with a bit of stash and a few scraps as well.

I love the basket block, but all are so pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW....These are gorgeous... wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandy!
DeleteOh Linda, your blocks are so gorgeous . The fabrics that you are using are yummy! You whipped up the Snowflake block lickety split. I have been going through my fabrics today, choosing them for the block. It is so exciting to see yours. Rosie looks like a great supervisor. She is as cute as a button. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are great and such pretty fabrics. xx
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are so, so pretty! It’s nice that you can use a jelly roll for them. They are all great, but if I had to pick a favorite, I would choose the snowflake block.
ReplyDeleteI have been following her story but not making the blocks. Glad to see you using the new sew room and getting into the swing of things - the front has made it to us and dropped 10 degrees since 7:30! and we did get a half inch of rain.
ReplyDeleteI adore your rail block! 😍 Thanks for sharing in the block party.
ReplyDeleteThose are turning out just great, Linda! I love the pretty color in them - that's a great jelly roll for this project. Your rail block looks perfect - I like how you made the rail fence parts with different colors of strips. I made my snowflake center yesterday - on today's list is to add the log cabin parts!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that this project is tied to the Little House books! How I loved them! I think I wanted to BE Laura!
ReplyDeleteI love all your blocks, Linda! But I feel like "Indigo Garden" doesn't look very indigo to me. I love the fabric line. Garden, yes. Maybe "Spring Garden" or some such would better describe it.
ReplyDeleteYou picked a great fabric palette for those blocks. It's hard to pick a favorite, they all look great.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric that caught my eye IMMEDIATELY is the one that says Rosemary and Sage. I can spot fabric like that from across the room. Plus, I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteThe Little House blocks all look great, Linda. The fabric choices are perfect for each one. If I had to choose favorites, I think they would be the basket and snowflake.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics you picked and the blocks are looking great. There is a little indigo in the fabrics, but you would think more with that name. I think the churn dash is my favorite so far.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a really special quilt as each block has a story behind it.
ReplyDeleteYou've done a wonderful job gathering your colors. The blocks look great. I, too, particularly like the basket quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt take me FOREVER to find the "right" fabric!! You palette and the blocks are so wonderful. It is always great to see Rosie!

I keep missing your posts! Maybe you shouldn't work Rosie so hard. She might go on strike.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are all beautiful Linda!
ReplyDeleteohthese are amazing. Whit fun to see them all together!
