Picnic Party - Day 4 - My Day!
How perfect is a Picnic Party Challenge in the middle of summer! This event is hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt, and you may find a list of participants at the bottom of this post. A big thank you to Carol for hosting these fun events!
Front and back of my version of the Nona Quilt - "Wonder"!
Carol's challenge was to make something to use for a picnic, such as a quilt, a basket or tote, etc., or to make a square quilt appropriate for a picnic. When Jocelyn of Canadian Needle Nana linked a pattern for the Nona Quilt by Jessica Dayon I immediately thought "picnic quilt". The pattern makes a 50-1/2" x 60-1/2", so I reduced it by one row to make a square "picnic-size".
I pulled some favorite scraps for the nine-patches. The binding and the block in the above photos are made with one of my all-time favorite fabrics by Carrie Bloomston - Newspaper Butterflies in yellow from her 2018 Wonder collection. I purchased it from Bernie when she had her Etsy shop. It is now hard to find - I found a remnant on Etsy that is ridiculously priced.
Fanciful Flyers from Urban Elementz was the perfect panto for quilting!
The back was pieced from two fabrics from Happy Happy by Kate Spain.
These have been in my stash for awhile just waiting for the perfect quilt.
I'm naming this quilt "Wonder" in honor of that fabric I love!
This was a simple, fun make with nine-patches, sashing, and cornerstones. It is destined to be donated to my daughter's minister at her church; she likes to take quilts with her on hospital visits.
