Independence Day In The Sewing Room

Scraptastic Star

Our family get-together was postponed! Our son and family were scheduled to visit on Friday, but our 22 year-old grandson developed congestion and fever. They were going to come without him, but Brandon is the life of the party! So we decided to wait until later this summer and try it again. Sooooo, I had unexpected time in the sewing room and decided to work with my purple scraps for RSC.

Geese Migration

Since 2020 I've been making Scraptastic Stars, 4-Patch Irish Chains, Geese Migration, and strings. I'm beginning to dread pulling out the scrap bins, because the bins become fuller as I use them!

Strings

I really enjoy making strings but oh what a mess I make!

I hope all of you had a happy and safe Fourth of July celebrating the independence of our great nation! I am linking (belatedly) to Angela's Scrap Happy Last Purple Saturday

2021 RSC Reds For May

Scraptastic Star = 12-1/2 inches unfinished

My plan for participation in the 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge is to add to the green, blue, and orange blocks I made last year. The color for May is red, and I had a lot of fun fabrics in that scrap bin. I'm looking forward to purple for June!

Four-Patch Irish Chains = 8-1/2 inches unfinished

I'm still making Four-Patch Irish Chains, Scraptastic Stars, strings, and Geese Migration blocks (quilt block pattern by Cynthia Brunz). Melissa Corry created Scraptastic Stars. I love Melissa's blog because it's so upbeat and helpful. While I was on her blog for the Scraptastic Stars pattern link, I re-read her post about Leaders and Enders and realized I had not done leaders and enders in AGES! Once I implemented that process, my RSC blocks went together much faster.

Geese Migration = 10-1/2 inches unfinished

As I worked with the reds on Geese Migration I found it difficult to find a "light red". Apparently I have very few of them in my scraps. I found a few in my stash, but I was determined to use my scraps. And by the way, my red scraps multiplied because I could barely close the bin!

I'm joining the Scrap Happy Saturday linkup hosted by Angela at So Scrappy and Oh Scrap! hosted by Cynthia at Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework. Be sure to check out all the red scrappy goodness!

2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge Yellows

I've been happily sorting through my yellow scrap bin this past week to catch up on the 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, hosted by Angela at SoScrappy.

My monthly scrap blocks are Geese Migration, Scraptastic Stars, strings, and four-patch Irish chains. Sometimes I plod through them just to get them done, and sometimes I enjoy them, especially since I only do them once a month. I enjoyed the colors this month, but I always dread the mess of doing strings, because I have 3 or 4 bins open, scraps all over the place, and that is the time that all my cats and my husband decide to pester visit with me - lol!

It really seems like I should have more Scraptastic Stars! I need red and purple, then I want to try a layout like Option E on Melissa Corey's blog.

I love Irish chain quilts! I will choose a pretty white for the solid squares when I have enough for a quilt.

Be sure to visit Angela's linky party for all the yellow goodness made by other RSC participants!
