Wedding Quilt Teaser

Here is an "official" photo of grandson Brandon and his new bride Raegan. I cry every time I see pics of them - they are so happy! They were married in Tulsa on April 26. I hope to have more photos to add to my next post.

This is a sneak peek at the quilt I am currently finishing for the newlyweds. The colors are based on Raegan's favorite color of teal. It is a big quilt, and quilting it will take awhile with having to move it around so much on the 5-ft quilting frame!

This is very similar to my first bike, except there was no rear rack
Today's I Like Thursday prompt is all about bikes. I got my first bike when I was 8. One day I cried and whined so much for a bike that the next day my Daddy took me to the Oklahoma Tire and Supply (OTASCO) store, which was right next to the drug store where he worked as a pharmacist. Daddy never made much money, so buying a new bike must have been a real stretch for him and Mom. I think it was $30, and the owner of the store let Daddy pay it out monthly. It was blue, and I loved it and rode it constantly around our little town. Mom sold it while I was in college, so it lasted a long time!

Joining with Not Afraid of Color for I Like Thursday. Hope you have a great rest of the week!

  1. Such a great picture of the newlyweds! I got a very similar bike when I was eight—it was a blue Huffy from Western Auto. I put a lot of miles on it riding back and forth to school and riding around the neighborhood with the other kids.

  2. I don't remember you mentioning that you went to Tulsa a couple weeks ago for a wedding - congratulations to the couple. We used to have bikes like that - but older looking as they were always used - I think we had about 3 of them and we all took turns with them the older kids I mean.

  5. The wedding couple looks so young, we were also many years ago. My first bike was the 'old junker' that was handed down from child to child. I don't know if it was brand new when the oldest child road it but it wasn't much to look at when it was my (the youngest) turn to learn to ride a bike. I think I was 10 when I got a brand new bike.

  6. Congratulations to the newlyweds! I hope they have a wonderful life together. That quilt is beautiful. I think it’s lovely that you’re making one to give to them. When I was a little girl, a lot of new couples got quilts made by their mothers or a grandmothers and I think that’s a wonderful tradition.

  8. I love that photo of the newlyweds, Linda! They definitely do look happy. The quilt is really pretty - the mellow colors are so appealing. I didn't know your daddy was a pharmacist - that's so interesting! Of course he would buy his little girl the bike of her dreams!

  12. Beautiful official wedding photo, Linda! I got my first bike in 6th grade--my dad picked it up somewhere for a bargain as it was secondhand. We lived at the bottom of 2 hills--either way was up! Dad ran behind me holding me upright until I got the hang of it.
